Data Sets & Field Experiments in Political Science Riduci

Data set on the Italian Members of Parliament (1987-2008)

Together with my coauthors Stefano Gagliarducci and Paolo Naticchioni, and thanks to the funding of the non-profit association "ERE - Empirical Research in Economics," we collected detailed individual information on the demographic characteristics, political and work experience, income patterns, legislative accomplishments, and absences of the universe of Italian members of Parliament from 1987 to 2008. Below, you can download the full data set in Stata format. For a precise description of the variables and data sources, please have a look at this README file.

A large-scale field experiment during the mayoral election in Arezzo (2011)

In 2011, together with my coauthors Chad Kendall and Francesco Trebbi, we implemented a large-scale field experiment involving the administration of different informational treatments to voters via both mail and phone. The experiment was realized in collaboration with the reelection campaign of the incumbent mayor, Giuseppe Fanfani. The experiment originated our paper (see above): "How Do Voters Respond to Information? Evidence from a Randomized Campaign." Please visit the following webpage for a precise description of the experimental design.

A survey experiment in the field during the mayoral election in Milan (2011)

In 2011, together with my coauthor Vincenzo Galasso, we implemented a survey experiment in the field involving the administration of different campaign materials to voters who accepted to participate in online surveys. The experiment originated our paper (see above): "Men Vote in Mars, Women Vote in Venus: A Survey Experiment in the Field." Please visit the following webpage for a precise description of the experimental design.

Measures of social capital for Italian provinces or municipalities

The following data collect measures of social capital commonly used in the economics and political science literature. The measures refer to Italy and vary either at the province or at the municipality level. Below, you can download the full data set in Stata format. For a precise description of the variables and data sources, please have a look at this README file.

Simulation-based sensitivity analysis for matching estimators

In 2007, I realized a Stata routine program for the implementation of the sensitivity analysis of matching estimators proposed by Ichino, Mealli, and Nannicini (Journal of Applied Econometrics, 2008). The program (sensatt.ado) and the related help file (sensatt.hlp) can be downloaded below. Alternatively, within Stata, you can type "net search sensitivity matching" and follow the link. The program can be used and distributed free of charge by anyone if credit is given, but it comes with no guarantee. You can also find the working paper version of the Stata Journal article that explains how to use the program. An ancillary Matlab code (sens_killer.m), whose utilization is explained in the article, is also provided.

Some users pointed me to this ISSUE. But please notice that you cannot use a previously estimated (and therefore invariant) propensity score to run the simulations, as you must allow the algorithm to re-estimate the propensity score based on the imputed confounder in each simulation. Please do not hesitate to contact me if this is not clear enough.
